Useful and detailed travel guide to Bermuda

This is an informative travel guide to Bermuda. At 228 pages long, this book is compact enough to stow in your backpack for trip planning and quick on-location reference. Unlike most Fordor's travel guides, this one is not printed in full color. Apart from the first few pages of full-color photographs highlighting the top 13 experiences and attractions of Bermuda, the rest of the guide is printed in black and orange colors. That said, the layout is clean and user friendly. There are also about a dozen of maps that are well illustrated and easy to read.
The guide has a good collection of itinerary suggestions and a calendar of popular events by month. It loosely divides the island territory into 3 distinct parishes for coverage - the Hamilton and Central parishes, St George's and Eastern parishes, and Dockyard and Western parishes. The coverage is pretty in-depth and informative. There are lots of information about popular attractions, where to stay and places to eat, as well as nightlife & art, beaches, golf, shopping and spas. There is also a nice chapter on cruising to Bermuda and onshore excursions. The obligatory traveler's information can be found at the back of the guide.
All in all, this is useful and detailed guide to Bermuda. The printing is a little small for aging eyes, but the clean layout and the wealth of information makes it a worthwhile guide to read. It is well written and well worth your time for planning a trip to Bermuda.

I have always wanted to vacation in Bermuda. You can never go wrong with Fodor's travel guides. I find them easy to carry along and detailed with information about the island that most interests me. The only problem with the guide is that I find the maps to be small and difficult to read. Yes, I will have to put my reading glasses on. Otherwise, a very detailed guide on all the areas of Bermuda.

A great guide for planning your trip to Bermuda

I have quite a few Fodor's travel guides and all of them are good, but this one is really excellent. I've had Bermuda on my travel list for a while, but I learned so much more from this guide. It's made me reconsider some of my initial ideas about places to stay and where to go. Yes, the guide has all the sections you expect from a travel guide: where to stay, where to eat, where to shop, what to see... But it also has lots of insider advice and a lot more detail than many guides offer.
However, there are a couple of things to complain about, which explains the 4 star, rather than 5 star rating. The main problem is that the maps are too small. Most of the maps are of the whole island. I think a better approach would have been to have a complete island map at the front and then, in appropriate sections, show a full page (or facing pages) map of just a portion of the island. I also would have appreciated more pictures.
Finally, the cruise ship section seems superfluous. Yes, some mention of cruise ships, the dock areas, and shore tours is helpful since many people choose to visit Bermuda via cruise ship. And, because some of the cruise ships spend 3-4 days in port, they are kind of like floating hotels for a Bermuda vacation. But, the information about cruising (what to wear on a cruise, on-board entertainment, embarking/disembarking, tipping...) just doesn't belong in a guidebook about Bermuda. It felt like extra fluff just to add pages.
